The Pearl

Client: Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing

Project Location: 16 Steven Street, Hamilton

Overview

Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing is proposing the readaptive use of the existing three storey building on 16 Steven Street for a fifteen (15) unit multiple dwelling to provide secure and affordable rental housing.

The existing three-storey brick building has a history of industrial and commercial uses and is listed on Hamilton’s Heritage Volume 2 – Inventory of Buildings of Architectural and/or Historical Interest. The conversion to a multiple dwelling building will be facilitated primarily through interior renovations. Minimal changes are proposed to the exterior of the building, of which will include repositioning the front door to be more central on the front façade and an addition to accommodate a secondary staircase at the rear of the building.

As the existing conditions of the site are to be maintained, limited parking is proposed. Lands severed from the rear of 436 King William Street will be merged with 16 Steven Street. Those lands will accommodate two (2) parking spaces accessed from the rear laneway and will provide approximately 60 square metres of outdoor common amenity space for future residents.
